September is Hunger Action Month: God's Pantry Food Bank Calls on Community to Help End Hunger‍

‍

Lexington, KY (September 1, 2026) — This September, God's Pantry Food Bank is joining the nationwide Feeding America network in recognizing Hunger Action Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness of food insecurity and inspiring action in communities across the country. Throughout the month, the Food Bank is encouraging individuals, businesses, and organizations across Central and Eastern Kentucky to help ensure every neighbor has access to the food they need to thrive.

The call to action comes as hunger continues to affect families throughout the region. According to the latest Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study, more than 314,000 Kentuckians across God's Pantry Food Bank's 50-county service area are experiencing food insecurity, a 12.4% increase from the previous year. Nearly one in five residents, and one in four children, in the region may not know where they will find their next meal.

"Food insecurity is a reality for far too many families, children, seniors, and individuals in the communities we serve," said Danielle Bozarth, Interim President& CEO of God's Pantry Food Bank. "Everyone has a role to play in helping end hunger. Whether you make a financial contribution, volunteer your time, advocate for policies that support families, or simply help raise awareness, your actions make a meaningful difference for our neighbors across Central and Eastern Kentucky."

Throughout Hunger Action Month, community members are encouraged to take action in several ways:

DONATE

Financial contributions provide the greatest flexibility in meeting the growing need for food assistance. Every $1 donated helps provide four meals for neighbors facing hunger.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are essential to the Food Bank's mission. From sorting and packing food to assisting with programs and events, volunteers help move millions of pounds of food to communities throughout the region each year.

ADVOCATE

Support policies and programs that help individuals and families access nutritious food. Sharing information and speaking up about hunger can help create lasting change.

SPREAD AWARENESS

Wear orange, share Hunger Action Month messages on social media, and encourage friends, family, and coworkers to learn more about hunger in Kentucky. Use #HungerActionMonth to join the conversation.

"Ending hunger takes all of us working together," Bozarth added. "During Hunger Action Month, we're asking our community to stand with families facing impossible choices between food, housing, healthcare, and other basic needs. Together, we can create a nourished life for every Kentuckian."
