Lexington, KY — God’s Pantry Food Bank is encouraging community members to participate in the annual Stamp Out Hunger® Food Drive on Saturday, May 9, helping provide critical food support to neighbors experiencing hunger in Central and Eastern Kentucky.
Led by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Stamp Out Hunger is the largest single-day food drive in the nation. Each year, letter carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by residents along their postal routes, ensuring the food stays within the local community to support area food banks and pantries.
On Saturday, May 9, residents can simply place a bag of non-perishable food items next to their mailbox before their regular mail delivery. Letter carriers will pick up donations as they deliver mail and route them to local post offices, where they will then be distributed to partners like God’s Pantry Food Bank.
“Every can, every box, or every bag of food left by the mailbox moves us closer to a stronger, healthier community,” said Michael Halligan, President and CEO of God’s Pantry Food Bank. “Stamp Out Hunger is a powerful example that small acts of generosity can make a big impact.”
Since its launch in 1993, Stamp Out Hunger has grown into a nationwide effort involving thousands of communities and millions of participants, collectively providing billions of pounds of food to those in need.
Donations collected through Stamp Out Hunger will help stock shelves at God’s Pantry Food Bank and support its network of partner pantries and meal programs across 50 counties in Central and Eastern Kentucky.
Most-needed items include:
• Canned proteins, vegetables, fruits, and beans
• Peanut butter
• Breakfast items
• Pasta and rice
• Soups and stews
All items should be non-perishable and in non-glass containers.
