Hunger Action Day® is a very special day for God’s Pantry Food Bank. On this day each year we stand with all 200 Feeding America member food banks to raise awareness of food insecurity in the nation and in our local communities. Throughout the country people from all walks of life will take actions both large and small to raise awareness of hunger in the United States, where we waste approximately 72 billion pounds of food annually while more than 40 million individuals often are unsure of where they will get their next meal.
Hunger Action Day® is the focal point of Hunger Action Month®, an initiative of Feeding America. Hunger Action Month is an important time for food banks throughout the United States to educate the public on hunger in our communities and share information on how we work daily to fight hunger. Each year we strive to provide actions – both large and small – that you can take to join in the fight and support our mission of eliminating hunger in Central and Eastern Kentucky.
As a part of our Hunger Action Day® events, Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton joined us to proclaim September 12, 2019 Hunger Action Day® in Lexington. Watch Mayor Gorton’s speech to hear the full proclamation.
Hunger Action Month offers you a special opportunity to increase your impact in this fight. Thanks to the generosity of Traditional Bank, Arby’s, Westfield Insurance, the Mitchell Family Foundation, and an anonymous donor, we have a Hunger Action Challenge match pool of $47,500 available. Each dollar you donate to the Hunger Action Challenge this September is matched, doubling your impact. Each dollar donated to us allows us to gather enough food for eight meals, but through the Hunger Action Challenge each dollar you donate will allow us to increase that impact to 16 meals.
